Stone Sculpture

Christian Ruckdeschel (assistant lecturer)

The stone place of the academy is temporarily supervised by a teaching assignment. In the first third of each semester, a workshop takes place for 4 to 5 weeks. The aim here is to provide individual support for students in projects and questions relating to the material stone in terms of artistic, technical, craft or petrological examination. There is also the possibility to get to know the basic techniques of working with different types of stone within the framework of an introductory project. Larger projects, which take a longer period of time, are also accompanied beyond the regular workshop times.

Equipment

  • Hard and soft rocks of different colors and sizes available for the workshop
  • fixed 5t gantry crane and mobile 2t gantry crane
  • all common types and sizes of hand-held steel and carbide chisels
  • air driven hammers from light type hammers to heavy stock hammers
  • hand-held power tools for drilling, cutting, wet/dry grinding and polishing

  • Basic knowledge of stone as a material and introduction to the various processing techniques
