The Media Lab is used to explore new media as a creative medium. It allows students to experiment with media tools and realise artistic ideas using strategies and programs. Integral to study is a constant preoccupation with the relationship between illusion and manipulation, which influences human perception of reality and its evaluation.

The Media Lab provides expert support of students' media technology-based projects, while cooperation with other disciplines opens up further application fields. In the art education area new media offer innovative creative options in terms of didactic teaching methods.

The (new) Media Lab at AdBK Nuremberg is the physical and virtual structure to learn creative coding, hacking, and strange things with electricity. The Media Lab is a space for experimentation in Art and Design and it is not shy of doing research about things that recently became technically possible. The Media Lab has a focus on Free/Libre Open Source Software (FLOSS) and Open-Source-Hardware (OSHW).
At the Media Lab we believe that learning different tools is the key for deep understanding. So we teach e.g. photo editing in general and do not focus on specific proprietary tools like Photoshop. At the Media Lab you are encouraged to build your own circuits and make things that move, blink, make sound. Connect sensors to microcontrollers, collect data, transform it into triggers and whatnot. If you are curious about live-coding and Generative Design, the Media Lab is the place to be.
